Klein Cain’s Alia Baker Shines at State Wrestling Meet

Klein Cain Junior Alia Baker took the State Wrestling meet by storm. Finishing as the State runner-up in the 110-pound weight class, Alia is a force to be reckoned with on the wrestling mat.

“We are incredibly proud of Alia,” Klein ISD Executive Director of Athletics Brandon Baker said. “This is a special accomplishment that reflects her commitment, the support of her family, and the guidance and dedication of her coaches throughout the season. Moments like this exemplify the excellence in athletics that we strive to meet each day.”

This accomplishment isn’t taken lightly for Alia; qualifying for the state competition last year and coming up short pushed her to get to where she is today. Through extreme discipline and motivation during the summer, Alia hit the mat determined to put her best foot forward.

“Placing at State this year meant a lot to me because I wanted to prove how hard I'd worked and how well I could do to everyone, including myself,” Alia said. “I spent my whole summer working as hard as I could. Going back and having the opportunity to compete again this year was really important to me. This makes me proud and makes me want to work even harder to win it all next year.”

Alia has been on the Klein Cain wrestling team since her freshman year. She is committed to excellence in wrestling, as evidenced by her qualifying for the USA Wrestling Junior and 16U Nationals this past summer.

“Alia Baker’s journey is a powerful reminder that excellence is never an accident,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “She represents the very best of our Klein Cain athletic community, and she has the kind of perseverance that turns setbacks into strength. We are so proud of Alia!”

With her senior year on the horizon, Alia has her sights set on what life will be like after high school, planning to continue wrestling in college at the University of Iowa.

“Alia’s climb to the podium at the State championship year was made possible by the foundation she began to lay in her sophomore year,” Klein Cain Wrestling Coach Michael Hamilton said. “I am excited for her future as she enters national tournaments this summer and guides our newcomers next school year. The way she approaches family, friends, schoolwork, and wrestling is something we can all be proud of and aspire to.”

We’re proud to celebrate students like Alia who face setbacks with grit and return with even more determination. Congratulations, Alia–your Klein Family is so proud of you!
