Klein ISD Nutrition & Food Services recently welcomed The Culinary Institute of America for a week-long Cooking for Healthy Kids training, marking the first time our District has hosted this prestigious program. Twenty-four kitchen leaders, campus managers, and lead team members completed five full days of hands-on culinary instruction focused on elevating scratch-cooking techniques, enhancing menu quality, and preparing fresh, nutrient-dense meals for students.
“We are truly honored to offer the ‘Cooking for Healthy Kids' training to our Nutrition and Food Services team,” Klein ISD Nutrition and Food Services Director Tiffany Muecke said. “Our employees were incredibly excited to participate and left inspired, full of creative ideas and innovative techniques. They are eager to bring them into our kitchens. We look forward to incorporating new recipes and fresh approaches in the coming months to continue elevating the meals we serve our students.”
Throughout the week, participants practiced advanced knife skills, developed flavorful sauce and seasoning profiles, explored new cooking methods, and prepared a variety of fresh recipes such as apple pie overnight oats, bánh mì Vietnamese sandwiches, chili-roasted sweet potatoes, maple sriracha baked beans, and spicy tuna sliders, all designed to increase student access to wholesome, flavorful meals.
Our district is committed to staying at the forefront of school nutrition as we prepare for updates to our school meal program. This comprehensive training strengthens our team’s culinary skills and supports our goal of expanding fresh, homemade menu options while increasing the appeal and quality of meals served across the district.
By investing in professional development at the highest level, Klein ISD continues to raise the standard of school meals and ensure that every student is fueled with high-quality, nutritious meals that support their success in and out of the classroom.
