Throughout this legislative session, we have remained actively engaged with lawmakers—sharing the real stories of our students and staff, advocating for needed resources that directly impact our classrooms, and emphasizing the importance of locally-determined decisions in public education. I’m so grateful to our incredible Klein community for standing with us—your calls, emails, and conversations with legislators are making a powerful difference for our schools. I can’t think of another time when our community has been as engaged as you have been for us during this legislative session, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
The regular session is ending on June 2, and thanks to you, our lawmakers have heard your voices and, after years of battling historic inflation with no increase from the state to the basic student allotment, they are planning to invest much-needed funds into our public schools for teacher and staff pay, special education services, school safety, and operational costs, such as insurance, utilities, and transportation.
While nothing has been signed into law yet, nor do we yet have all the details of how the needed funds might be allocated to Klein ISD, we are counting on our state elected officials to invest in our schools with their historic billion-dollar surplus. Anything less than a historic investment in our schools to help combat years of historic inflation will shortchange our students, the future of Texas.
