The Klein ISD Police Department continued its tradition of giving back to the Klein ISD community as it embarked on its ninth year of Holiday Heroes.
Students and officers alike were all smiles as they laughed with one another and shared a meal sponsored by GPI Defense. Santa Claus and a surprise cash prize giveaway made their time more special.
“This initiative brings together Klein ISD police officers, staff, and community partners to support students and families by providing gifts, resources, and moments of joy when they are needed most,” Klein ISD Police Chief Marlon Runnels said. “Holiday Heroes reflects the department’s commitment to ensuring every student enters with a promise and exits with a purpose, while reinforcing that our students and families are supported beyond the classroom. As we celebrate nine years of impact, we are already looking ahead with excitement to the 10-year anniversary of Holiday Heroes next year, which we anticipate will be bigger, better, and even more meaningful for the Klein ISD community.”
The excitement could be felt throughout the evening for all, whether they were first-timers or seasoned holiday heroes. Busloads of students and officers arrived at Academy Sports + Outdoors West Spring and hit the ground running.
This event allows students and officers to see how much they have in common, in how they both put others first. While many students shop, they often have to be reminded to get items for themselves, as they spend much of their time shopping for loved ones.
“I’m really happy with what we’re doing here to help people,” Klein Collins student Kameron said.“Especially because I need a few things to help me with my wrestling journey, doing this can really have a big impact.”
For many officers, the night allows them to give back to their community and get to know their students more personally. Students who participate in Holiday Heroes learn valuable lessons from their officers, such as money management, while they navigate the best way to spend their $150.
While shopping, it’s clear that Klein ISD police officers take pride in their work with our students.
“I’ve been involved with this organization for several years, and it continues to be incredibly rewarding,” Senior Officer Ileana Perez said. “Seeing the excitement and smiles on the children’s faces is a clear sign that everything has come together successfully.”
This magical night was made possible by our selfless officers, constables, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s office, and a lot of help from our community partners: GPI Defense, Academy Sports + Outdoors, K-9 Quinn's supporters, LifeSavers ER, Speedy's RaceTrack, and Austin Bank.
We are so grateful to our outstanding Klein ISD Police Department, which made this a night our excellent students will remember. Thank you for all that you do!
