Klein ISD recently hosted its annual Mentorship Celebration Breakfast to honor the outstanding volunteers who make a meaningful impact in students' lives across the district. The event recognized the heartfelt contributions of 167 mentors who serve on 42 campuses, including 96 returning mentors and 71 new mentors this year.
These dedicated individuals show up week after week, offering encouragement, support, and a listening ear to students who benefit from having a consistent and caring adult in their lives. The breakfast was a small token of appreciation for the big difference mentors make every day.
The experience has been as meaningful for many mentors as it is for the students. Greenwood Forest Mentor Lamond Brown reflected on the powerful connections that have formed.
“It’s been overwhelming, but in the best way. You come in expecting to help someone else, but end up being changed too,” Mr. Brown said. “Building trust with your mentee feels like gaining family. Even when we don’t have much, we pour into others, because someone once did the same for us. And these kids? They are the future."
The Klein ISD Mentorship Program welcomes parents, community members, and local professionals to become mentors. With just a small investment of time, volunteers can provide support that truly changes lives.
“Our mentors are helping shape brighter futures,” Volunteer Mentor Program and Elementary Counselor Coordinator Jennifer Matus said. “Their compassion, commitment, and presence in our schools do not go unnoticed. This celebration is just one way we can say thank you.”
