Seniors Return to Elementary Roots During Annual Clap-Out

Klein, Texas—Seniors across Klein ISD took a sentimental walk down memory lane Tuesday as they returned to their elementary campuses for the district’s annual Senior Clap-Out. The beloved tradition, filled with cheers, hugs, and high-fives, celebrates graduates as they complete their journey through Klein ISD, while inspiring the next generation of students.

Families, teachers, and staff lined hallways to honor the Class of 2025, many of whom reunited with the educators who first welcomed them into our Klein Family. Current elementary students looked on with admiration, imagining their futures in caps and gowns.

“The Senior Clap-Out is such a special Klein ISD tradition,” Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “It celebrates our students’ accomplishments while giving our youngest learners a vision of what they, too, can achieve. It is with great pride and joy that we recognize these incredible young people as they embark on their journeys to pursue their purpose in college, the military, or the workforce. I know they will be excellent leaders with heart and humility, shaping our world for the better. Congratulations, Class of 2025!”

Emotional Homecoming at Lemm Elementary

At Lemm Elementary, the day was especially meaningful. Many seniors had not returned since 2017, when Hurricane Harvey severely damaged the school. Students were relocated to Klein Cain High School, and the original building was partially demolished and rebuilt in the years that followed.

“It’s very different, but I’m so happy I got to see my old teachers,” senior Kalie Brown said. “Even though some of them have moved on, it was really special to come back. The school is so much bigger now.”

Senior Austin Johnston, who was in fifth grade at Lemm when Harvey struck, remembered the day vividly.

“We recorded the flooding in our neighborhood and around the school. At first, I thought we’d get a break from school, but then we were relocated for good,” Johnston said. “Being at Klein Cain gave me access to programs like robotics and 3D printing. That’s when I discovered my love for engineering.”

Johnston plans to study electrical engineering in college and credits the move during Harvey as a defining experience.

Looking Ahead, Leaving a Legacy

Though the seniors came to say goodbye, their words left a lasting impression on the students who lined the halls.

“Don’t give up,” Brown said. “Always believe in yourself and do your best.”

As applause echoed through classrooms and hallways, the Klein ISD Senior Clap-Out served as a celebration not just of graduation but of growth, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds formed in elementary school.
